
Esther Louise Luttrell was born Nov, 11, 1946, in Iberia, MO. She was the oldest of three children born to Alonzo and Easter (Rowden) Luttrell. Esther graduated from Iberia High School in 1964.
After high school, Esther worked at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, where she met her first husband, Les Fister. They were united in marriage on August 28, 1967, and were married for 20 years. They first settled in Scranton and eventually Jefferson. They were the parents of one son, Jeremy.
Esther became Greene County treasurer and served two terms, from 1978 – 1986. In 1989, she moved to Des Moines and worked for the Polk County attorney’s office, where she worked until her retirement. Esther married her second husband, Robert Palmer, on April 4, 1993.
Esther was a devoted member of the Jefferson DOES Drove #196. She served as lodge president twice, in 1985 and 1994. She served two terms as the DOES Supreme President, from 2012 to 2014.
Esther enjoyed playing Bingo and playing the slot machines at Prairie Meadows. More importantly, she loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Esther enjoyed volunteering her time and resources to those in need.
Esther Fister-Palmer died January 30, 2026, at Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson. She was 79 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Palmer, who died in 2003.
Esther is survived by her son Jeremy Fister; grandchildren Ryan, Hayden and Addison; her sister Linda Murphy; her brother Terry Luttrell; other relatives and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a DOES Service of Remembrance to be held Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1:45pm at the Jefferson Elks Lodge. The family was assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home and Cremation Care, Jefferson, Iowa.
